WHEN THE TIME COMES TO CHANGE YOUR PRINTER DON’T MAKE A BIG MISTAKE… GET SOME SOUND IMPARTIAL ADVICE FROM THE INKJET PEOPLE!!
If you are unlucky enough to own a printer that uses hellish expensive cartridges, here's some food for thought..... A pair of new ink cartridges might typically be costing you around £40-£60. For a similar amount, you could buy a NEW PRINTER (that will come with inks), which can be run on much cheaper compatible cartridges. Over the life of a typical printer (say 7 years or so) you'd save many hundreds of pounds.
Among others, Kodak make lots of noise in their adverts about their printers being cheap to run but there are serious downsides... 1) They are comparing ONLY the cost of printing with genuine branded ink cartridges (compatibles are MUCH cheaper), 2) The technology used in their printers is really quite old - deploying a wasteful TRI-COLOUR cartridge (as opposed to separate ink tanks) and 3) The Kodak Corporation is apparently on it's knees financially (their core market of camera film having dissolved) so their future might be considered uncertain.
We've been in the printer consumables business since 2001, so we have a good deal of experience. We've learned a great deal over the years about printers to embrace, and more importantly, printers to avoid. A very general rule of thumb is that if the printer is cheap, the consumables will be expensive. The manufacturer sells the printer at zero (or nominal) profit but benefits over a number of years from selling the buyer expensive inks or toners, at vast profits. Ker-ching!
If you consider using alternative-brand consumables, great examples of low cost, cheap to run printers are Canon Pixma TS5050 or TS5051 or TS5053 wireless printers - on sale widely in the UK at around £60 for example (we do NOT sell printers). We have very similar Canon models (among other printers) in daily use in our office, and they are great machines - fast, quiet and reliable. We choose to run ours on compatible ink cartridges which are very high quality, very reliable, very low cost, and contain high ink volumes so they last for ages. Alongside black inks there are separate colour ink tanks so you don't end up throwing away a part-full tri-colour cartridge when only one colour has expired. Many hundreds of our customers have reported back to us, having bought these printer models on our recommendation and - without exception - they've been absolutely 100% delighted. We have nothing to gain but some satisfaction from offering this advice (and hopefully continuing as their ink/toner supplier) - we believe customers should know the whole truth. Our honesty has won us many regular customers over the years.
We're happy to advise impartially - do give us a ring. Getting it wrong by buying a "cheap printer" can wind up extremely expensive in the long term because the cost of inks will be so high.
